The best places to visit in Australia in November

In Australia in November ✈️

November is a bit of a funny month in Australia.

As the last month of spring, the days begin to get warmer and the nights longer. Temperatures aren’t burn-your-hands-on-the-steering-wheel hot just yet, but you can definitely feel a change in the air. As such, November is a great time to visit parts of Australia that are otherwise too warm in summer.

You can trek through the ancient jungles of Cairns in Queensland or sample some of Perth’s finest city beaches. But of course, you don’t need to beat the heat. You can play a few holes at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club or walk through the wildflowers on Kangaroo Island.

Either way, there are heaps of options for places to visit in Australia in November – let’s check them out.

1. Cairns, QLD

If you’re a nature lover, then Cairns should definitely be on your must-see list. This tropical region of Australia lets you to immerse yourself in lush greenery and dense rainforests.

The air is thick with humidity and Cairns itself is thick with excitement. If there were awards for the most laidback city in Australia, we reckon cairns would take the cake. November marks the start of the rainy season in north Queensland, so expect rainfall, thunderstorms and maybe even the odd cyclone.

Don’t let the wild weather stop you from exploring the spectacularly old Daintree Rainforest or snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef though. They’re two of Australia’s greatest wonders!

2. Melbourne, VIC

Melbourne is known for a few things.

Great coffee is one, trams are another and the fact it feels vaguely European is the third. If you want our advice though, Melbourne is just Melbourne – a creative, lively and inspiring place to both live and visit.

From world-class restaurants to myriad culture events and exhibitions, there’s never a dull moment when it comes to food and entertainment in Victoria’s capital. If you’re more inclined towards outdoor sports though, it’s nice to know that the Royal Melbourne Gold Club is always open for a hit. When you’ve had enough of the fairway, you can then check out the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) or the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV).

Just remember to bring a mix of cold and warm weather clothing. Like a Melbourne barista’s hairstyle, you’ll never know what you’re going to get.

3. Kangaroo Island, SA

Don’t get us wrong… Kangaroo Island is an epic place to visit no matter what time of the year it is. But if we’re talking about striking a good balance between weather and price, November is the pick.

Summer is ridiculously expensive, not to mention extra busy. Spring, or at least the end of spring, is a way better option. There’s already an abundance sunshine and you can admire all manner of cute, shy and amazing native animals as you hike around.

Better yet, you can witness the incredible natural phenomenon that is the springtime wildflower bloom, whereby a vast spectrum of colours can be found carpeting the Kangaroo Island landscape.

4. Perth, WA

Perth is the most remote capital city in the world, but don’t let the distance put you off. The fact that Perth is so far away from everything is what makes it so remarkable.

It’s literally overflowing with charming natural beauty that includes fabulous beaches and soul-rejuvenating vistas. There’s also been an explosion of street art, excellent eateries and capital-city worthy cultural events in the last decade.

Plus, we can’t talk about a trip to Perth in November without also mention that it’s the place to be for whale watching. Throw in the fact that the beaches are straight out of a postcard and Perth begins to look like a highly attractive holiday destination.

5. Lord Howe Island, NSW

While it may be a tiny island (even when compared to other tiny islands), Lord Howe bats far above it average in many areas.

It’s a World Heritage-listed oasis for beauty, with sparkling blue waters, out-of-the-way beaches and a rich history to explore. The fact you’re visiting in November also means that you can see the island without having to deal with the crazy summer crowds.

We recommend hiking Mount Gower, surfing the perfect waves at Blinky Beach or swimming with the fish at Ned’s beach. Just remember to book a return ticket home if you plan on coming back, otherwise the allure of living on Lord Howe Island might very well prove to strong!
